First race weekend back on track and a difficult one to say the least, Friday was so warm and track conditions didn’t suit the TKM engines as they are air cooled not water cooled. During our 10 minutes of practice we stayed out for half of it as no point in over heating the engine and putting the extra strain through it. Unfortunately this came back to damage us on the Saturday as we were making progress from every start and kart set up felt great but we lost power mid race. As a result of this, some heats we lost 0.7 seconds however our biggest loss was 1.1 seconds a lap which was so hard to compete with.
I’m not quite sure how but we managed to scrape through to the A pre final but it did mean starting at the back. Carb rebuilt over night and the kart stripped and put back together, we did this just incase we were missing something really obvious but we couldn’t see anything so we set off again on Sunday for the finals. Again this showed we had a great start but mid way the pace went again, the only thing left to do was to try another engine.

Starting from the back for the final, unsure of our pace we finished a respectful 22nd out of 48 drivers. In the final the engine didn’t drop off at all as we set our fastest laps at the end, a weekend to forget for us but we dust ourselves off and go again. My Engine is back with the engine builders and hopefully they can answer our head scratching questions. The trouble with racing is it’s got so many low points but we persevere as when it’s all set right, there is no better feeling.
Thank you to those that helped me at the weekend, you know who you are.
