Kimbolton November 2019

So this weekend was all about change.

I was going to run under the awning of former British Open Champion and once 6th seed in Britain, Joe Stockford. We knew it was going to a tough weekend as the grid was full of strong British drivers…

Saturday Test Day

Saturday morning I went for a team track walk and Joe explained corner by corner how to approach corners and the lines to take to get the best run out to carry the speed along the straights. Then it was all about getting the kart set up to fit me, so layers of seat padding and pedals were moved to start tweaking my set up.

By the end of Saturday, we found some good pace and were all positive going into Sunday.

Sunday Race Day

The 3 lap transponder check showed I no longer sat at the back and was looking strong.

Heat 1

Due to being random grids I was starting 9th on changeable track. It was Joe’s decision of tyre and set up, and he got this bang-on – the kart was completely underneath me doing exactly what I wanted and we showed great pace. I finishing 3rd and was over the moon with top 3.

Heat 2

I was starting 20th, so I got my head down and made up 9 places finishing a respectable 11th. We then waited to see where I qualified to start the final…

Final

4th place. I couldn’t quite believe that, but again, so pleased. After a great start it was down to me to get my head down once again and try to keep up with the front pack. We were all swapping places and having a truly great race. I saw the chequered flag at 3rd place finish and we were all celebrating. This has been a tough year and to finally show what we had was an amazing feeling.

My first podium since stepping up into seniors is definitely one I’m going to remember ???
