Shenington SuperPrix – 19th to 21st July 

Racing finished on Sunday at HKRC and now it’s Thursday we’re back on the road again this time travelling to Shenington. 

This is a new track to me and this weekend is one of the clubs biggest race meeting the SuperPrix, everyone is racing to hold the E plate on their kart which is the plate for English Champion, this time I had 50 on my grid.

Friday 19th July

Friday test day was awful conditions with rain so set up was intermediates, first time out on track I was pleased to come in not being lapped and actually loving the new track, heavy rain then fell so onto a full wet set up so just had to settle with getting track time. We had one dry run in the afternoon where we got to gage where I was lacking pace in sector 1 & 3, sector 2 was actually looking good already. Still had work to do to be fully up to pace with drivers that regularly race here.

Saturday 20th July

Saturday gave me 2 dry test sessions where we were able to suss exactly my braking points, so I was comfortable and confident going into qualifying.

I made a bad judgement by not being in the tow so struggled to set a good time, so lots to do on Sunday as I qualified 46th out of 50.

Sunday 21st July

Heat 1,2

Sunday came and Heat 1 started 31st on the grid, after starting it was soon apparent that no matter how hard I pushed I was lacking power so I drove the best I could. As I pulled in the pits the kart stopped dead with no movement at all. Up on the trolley and back in the awning thankfully it was the clutch so again I knew it wasn’t anything I was doing it was down to power so this now fixed and back out for my Heat 2. Started 30th and finished 19th kart felt so much better and the power I was lacking was back & lap times showing I was on the pace.

When the kart was returned to the awning we put the lasers on to check my tracking wasn’t out as I could feel it was 100 % on my turning one way, the tracking was out and so my kart so a quick strip down to the chassis and the kart on jig showed it was slightly bent, so kart straightened showed I had more to give.

Final

Unfortunately the earlier results made me go in the B final starting P3, I knew top 4 would go in the A final so that was my plan to push for top 4.

I made a great start but unfortunately a bend 3 accident and me with absolutely no where to go I got scooped up. So now rejoining in pretty much last place I had to much to do but still I drove with what I had and damage to the back end which made it harder to drive we finished 14th. Not what I hoping for but again that’s racing, still we look forward to getting back out in 2 weeks time.
