Race weekend at HKRC – 13th & 14th July

Saturday 13th July

Race weekend at HKRC, so good to be back at track again looking forward to a full day of testing with dry conditions too, which means we get to tweak my set up to suit me and I get to settle with the track and master my lines. We tried lots of different set ups some didn’t work at all and some showed that I was fully on the pace, test days can be tricky to gage as you never know what people are running.

Sunday 14th July

Sunday practise showed I was top ten pace wise with a grid of 29 drivers.

Random starts gave me a starting position of 13th which loosing places at the start due to avoiding other karts coming together I finished in a respectful 13th place.

Heat 2

Started 5th and again managed to hold my position and finish in 5th again showing my pace was there.

Heat 3

Started 22nd and crossed the finish line in 13th place.

So this gave me a starting position of 8th for my final and with the grid around me I was really pleased with, I was hoping for a great start to be able to push with the front pack.

Unfortunately not the start I wanted due to first corner avoiding a coming together of other drivers, so I lost places. I tried my best to get my my head down and make my places back, the kart didn’t seem as great to drive and I knew I was lacking top end speed, so I held my position the best I could with a struggling pace down the straights. Still finished 13th and once we looked on the micron it was clear to see my engine wasn’t pulling the top revs, but that’s racing the highs and lows but a positive for me to know the race craft is coming back.
