The 5am alarm going off can only mean one thing… race weekend.
We arrived at track to be greeted by heavy rain and soon after had signed on and was headed down to Scrutineering. My race clothing was checked, the tyres barcoded and luckily for me, Rob was at track on Thursday and Friday setting up for test day (which I had miss due to exams), so Rob had already got the kart Scrutineered. The track walk that followed was important, as I haven’t been here for a year and it’s always good to get your eye in and check for any changes on the track. I went back to have a chat with Rob regarding our set up, deciding Dad was on the spanner’s with Kath, Steph & Rob all weekend.
The 3 lap transponder check proved this was going to be a tough weekend for me but I’m always up for the challenge.
Qualifying
Next up was a very wet track with rain still falling for qualifying. I ended up 21st, so was going to be starting from the back of the grid.
Heat 1,2,3
For Heat 1 I didn’t even get through the start line – I oiled the engine up, putting that one down to be rusty. As Heat 2 approached the rain finally stopped and the track was rapidly drying, so on went the slicks and change of set up. So for Heat 2 I actually got through the start line and gained 8 places finishing 14th. Heat 3 finished 15th place.
Sunday was a dry day but a lot of waiting around for my pre final. After a tricky start and losing places on bend one, I got my head down and finished 16th.
The final I started 16th and gained 5 places to finished The East Anglian Trophy 11th and with great lap times that improved all weekend.
I want to say a massive thank you to Team RSR, Dad on the spanner’s and my sponsors as this really is a big team effort.
I’d also like to thank YAZOO Drinks for supplying me with my favourite banana milkshakes for the weekend and carrera sunglasses for supplying my shades.
